JANUARY 19TH DEVOTIONAL

January 19, 2016

Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. Psalm 119:35

Are you like I am and like to travel? I enjoy driving to a specific destination. I do not fear flying. It would be fun to take a train ride somewhere. Starting this spring and prayerfully for numerous times, I will be able to ride my bike and have company. Yes, naturally God but I meant my other Special Someone! Think about it though, do we know we are going at all times? There is an individual who goes our direction in life.

“In Christ There Is No East or West” and the same applies to North and South. The Lord knows where we are headed before we do. He prepares the way as “the Spirit works within.” Everywhere we go, we are thankful for safe arrival as “he (has) met us with his grace.” What a companion for travel or even life’s journey!

Jeremiah prays in Chapter 10 of his book, “Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.” We find this to be true with our choice in looking for a job. He knows what is best for us and leads us to the solution He knows is right for us. I found that to be a difficult reminder for a few years in Atlanta but in the end I thanked God that He was right and I wasn’t in knowing the right direction.

Last week, Janet and I enjoyed our third month together as a married couple. We have come to be blessed and thankful for each other. There are days I simply I don’t know what I would do without her! I pray she feels the same way! Yet, three years ago, I was lonely and did not have a companion such as this. Finally, I woke up and asked for more of the Lord in terms of a direction I wanted to travel-to find the ideal person He wanted me to be with. It took some time but Paul’s words provided the right answer,” May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance” as he writes in 2 Thessalonians.

As you know, the Lord directed the Israelites in their journey and He does for us. He knows what is best for everyone though our eyes may not see it. How thankful we are to know “he breaks all barriers down” for His children.

Prayer: Make us mindful, Lord, of the directions you want us to travel within our lives and being thankful for Your will and not ours.
