“Brain Awareness”
Impact of Alzheimer’s/Dementia as a global crisis that significantly impacts local communities
Abundant Life Reformed Church is making a commitment to our community by starting a ministry of support for those caring for loved ones suffering from dementia. We are creating safe spaces in our building where caregivers can gather for support, while at the same time, where their loved ones can be engaged at whatever level of engagement they are capable: playing board games, coloring, music, drum circles, art, or simply enjoying hearing a story read to them. Perhaps you have seen the renovations happening in the former nursery and crib and crawl rooms. While we are a few weeks away from completion, there two important ways you can contribute to this ministry today.
On Sunday, September 15, Pastor Keith will lead Team Abundant Life in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an annual event seeking to raise the funds needed for care, support and research. Alzheimer’s has hurt too many families, and we must stop it from hurting more. I encourage you join us and you can easily register with the team via the following link:http://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=17780&pg=team&team_id=907522 (http://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=17780&pg=team&team_id=907522)
You do not have to walk to be a part of the team. We need volunteers to help with a number of things on the day of the event – cheering on your brothers and sisters in Christ is certainly a good one!
IMPORTANT: There will be a regular worship service in the sanctuary at 10:30am for those of you who cannot or do not want to walk!
Schedule of events:
Volunteering starts: 8:15am
Check in for walkers: 9:00am

How we can make a difference:
Alzheimer’s is more than just memory loss- it is a debilitating fatal disease, currently affecting more than 7 million people and there 11 plus million unpaid care givers nationwide. In New Jersey, especially Bergen and Essex Counties, there are more than 200,000 people and their 272,000 caregivers suffering from this disease. Help is needed. As a church, what can we do to help this fight to ENDALZ?
In addition to our future ministry providing a place to support, there us a very important way we can act now. Join the GNJ Alzheimer’s Association Bergen Passiac Walk to raise the vital funds needed for the research to ENDALZ. The walk will take place on Sunday, September 15,2024 in Overpeck Park. Our team member Terry has been an avid Alzheimer’s volunteer since 2003 and is the chairperson of the walk’s steering committee. Just remember “Alzheimer’s never stop’s neither do we”
