MARCH 7TH DEVOTIONAL

He appointed twelve-designating them apostles-that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. Mark 3: 14-15

In this next to last writing about Jesus Christ, I will note a few observations about what He expects from us as His followers. Prior to expectations, it would be helpful to know a few basic facts. If we are His apostle, then a parallel can be made to that of a messenger. We do not possess any special ability or looks. Our background and what we have experienced vary in each of us. There is no special talent to be displayed. The key in being one of His is simply to obey Him and His Word. Besides this essential characteristic, it is important we must be willing to follow Him with a willing heart. Luke’s Gospel records two other conditions: to deny oneself and take up our cross.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, we need to repent of our sins. Jonah was not one of the twelve but he did carry out the Lord’s desire in leading the people of Nineveh to repentance. Solomon was not a perfect individual either but he led a leader to a knowledge of Christ. Just think what the ancient world would have been like if the citizens of Sodom and Tyre had not rejected Him compared to too many in today’s universe.

The book of Philippians states our attitude should be similar to Christ Jesus. “Like Christ, we should have a servant’s attitude, serving out of love for God and for others, not out of guilt or fear.”We accomplish this because Christ resides in us as we are not alone thus our reason for living. God received recognition for what He accomplished during His ministry, this isn’t necessary for us. Quite simply, our desire should be to live as He lived. Thus, do not become bogged down with what our desires are but what He wants for us. Isn’t this what YOU want?

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to be a complete apostle by following The Word and possessing a wholehearted attitude. Amen.
