FEBRUARY 23RD DEVOTIONAL

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

As Christians or even non Christians, we are all different. This relates to our looks, home, cars and jobs. Our positions in life are essential to not only who we are but to our families’ well being as well as us. It is important to note that the lifestyle is important to God and not just man. The job we have is important to everyone’s welfare.

In working, we desire to bring honor to God as He is the One who provided us with the essentials for doing what we do. This not only applies to our work but every activity we undertake. In our work, we should remember Jesus Christ is our supervisor. No matter what our position is, the one we desire to please is God as He is watching over us because of a simple act of caring for us. Service is noteworthy as stated in Ephesians: “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you are serving the Lord, not men.”

Our work may not bring satisfaction to us but it does to God. One example was Amos. He raised sheep, not a spiritual position, yet he became a prophet  who proclaimed the Lord’s message to others. One may not be successful but he is since it is where God wants him to be.

One commentator I read had an excellent point and follow-up. “Wherever we go and whatever we do, our work ought to leave behind an impression that we are seeking to serve God rather than just people. We have been given excellent resources to build and expand God’s kingdom. Jesus expects us to use these talents so that they can multiply and the kingdom grows.”

Don’t give up in your work. God will grant to you what is needed: the knowledge, patience, wisdom and understanding. Remember, He cares for you wherever you may be.

Prayer: Make us thankful for our work and may words, attitudes, feelings be pleasing to the Lord. Amen.
